If possible back up the data on this volume. I chose "run first aid" and got this report: "First Aid process has failed. I went to Disk Utility to repair the disk but it failed. Newfs_hfs: write (sector 6848952): Invalid argumentĮrror: -69832: File system formatter failed here's what terminal reported:įormatting disk2s2 as Mac OS Extended with name External I yanked the USB out of the drive to kill power. The second I issued it I realized I was issuing it on the drive with my data, not disk3s1 - the NEW drive. Well, "partition" was grayed out in Disk Utility and some research suggested issuing a command in terminal - which I did:ĭiskutil erasedisk hfs+ External GPT /dev/disk2 I wanted to setup backup on it so bought a second one and today plugged it in, erased it to a OS Extended and wanted to partition (to add TimeMachine to one slice). I already had a 2TB Seagate external drive (an STGX2000400). Today I added a second external drive to my Mac mini. I'm the living example of "know enough to be dangerous." I'm hoping for a touch of sympathy and your best advice. I also downloaded RStudio but that was too confusing for me at this point to manage.Ĭan anyone provide some further advice? I am sure there's lots of information in this subreddit I can gather but I'm honestly just feeling overwhelmed at this point. Having done a little reading here I downloaded UFS Explorer and so I'm hopeful that the results of the scan in process are encouraging but my shame and fear have me doubting that I can take any solace at this point (screenshot attached of said progress). So, I posted the below on r/MacOS and just discovered this form.
